Hungary have posted a second statement on Barnabas Varga after his sickening collision with Scotland’s Angus Gunn.
The Hungarian football federation have provided another update on Barnabas Varga after he was taken to hospital following a sickening collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
In the 69th minute, the Hungary striker was wiped out by the Norwich City shotstopper as he rushed to claim a cross.
Play was stopped and there was immediate concern for Varga.
His teammates frantically called for medical attention and captain Dominik Szoboszlai helped bring on the stretcher.
Sheets were put up to shield Varga from the crowd and the BBC cut to a wide camera angle.
Following a lengthy stoppage, where Szoboszlai was in tears, the Ferencvaros forward left on the stretcher and was taken to a nearby hospital in Stuttgart.
And after the game, which Hungary won via a Kevin Csoboth strike in the 10th minute of stoppage time, it was confirmed that Varga was in a “stable condition”.
The federation then issued a second statement revealing the extent of Varga’s injuries.

As relayed by ESPN, he broke “several bones” in his face as well as suffering a concussion.
Varga spent the night in hospital, with Hungary manager Marco Rossi revealing that the 29-year-old is healthy but is expected to undergo an operation on his fractures.
He will therefore, as expected, not play any further part in the tournament should Hungary progress.
“I don’t know if he suffered a collision with the goalkeeper or with an opponent because it was a confused situation,” Rossi said post-match.
“That’s why the VAR was checking if it was a penalty or not.
“What I heard from the players is that Barney in that moment did not look conscious, so everybody was really worried about his condition and also worried about the fact that the doctors arrived a little late, we can say, but probably they didn’t realise it was a dangerous situation.”
“Fortunately now, I can say that Barney is not under any kind of risk.
Probably, he will be operated [on] in the coming hours because he suffered a fracture here [points to face]. But he is healthy. The most important thing is he’s healthy.
“Of course, and for sure if we go through the competition, he will not be any more a part of the team.”

Hungary players dedicated the win to their teammate and held up his shirt afterwards.
They now face a nervous wait as to whether they have qualified for the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
